SEMI-FINALS Mx : Expeditive matches…

The competition in Coubertin opened today with the mixed doubles’ semi-finals. And the fact that the players did not spend many time on court is the least one can say…

The day began with a battle opposing the current world number 1 of the discipline (the Chinese players ZHENG Siwei and HUANG Yaqiong) and the pair WATANABE/HIGASHINO from Japan. The japanese had previously beaten the 2017 title holders (Ahmad – Natsir from Indonesia) in the previous round, but this time they came accorss some difficulties… Indeed, the Chinese pair seemed intouchable on the court, switching between powerful smashes from the back of the court and precision at the net. ZHENG/HUANG won the match pretty easily in less than 40 minutes 21/11 21/14.

Koreans as challengers

In the second part of the draw, the crowd witnessed a closer match between the surprising Thai players Dechapol PUAVARANUKROH / THASapsiree TAERATTANACHAI and the Koreans KORSEO Seung Jae / KORCHAE Yujung, who won their previous rounds pretty easily.

The duel seemed quite balanced until the middle of the first game (11-9 for the Koreans at the pause). But the Koreans forced the pace of the game to fly to victory. Final score : 21/14 21/9 for KORSEO/KORCHAE.

The announced battle between them and the Chinese world n°1 pair foreshadows an interesting match. Who will win the duel : the awaited favourites, or the energetic challengers ?
