WD – SF : Korean touch for the final

Korean pairs defeated their respective Japanese opponents with higher world ranks and reshuffled the cards for the French Open final.

First-seeded Matsumoto/Nagahara out...

Combining multiple top-level statuses could lead to a tough situation. World number 1, Worlds Gold medalists, defending champions and first-seeded here in Paris, Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara’s resume was strong. But with a 2019 head-to-head 3-1 record in favor of Kim so Yeong and Kong Hee Yong, the path to the French Open finals was once again very tortuous.

In the 1h and 13-minute long encounter the Korean pair added more French Open winners to its resume of wins beating 2016 champions Chen/Jia yesterday and Matsumoto/Nagahara last year champions this Saturday.

They defeated the Japanese in 3 games 21-15 16-21 21-14.

As well as second-seeded Fukushima/Hirota

Korea’s Lee/Shin followed their peers by knocking out Fukushima/Hirota in 2 straight games 21-17 21-16.

The Korean-Korean final will be a rematch of the Korea Open which took place end of September this year. Kim/Kong battled through 3 games to overcome Lee/Shin 13-21 21-19 21-17.

Will 2018 runners-up and 2017 semi-finalists Lee/Shin avenge themselves on their peers?

For sure Korean cards are now on top of the stacks for the Women’s Doubles draw here at the 2018 French Open.
