WD – Day 3 : Stoeva sisters showed up once again in QF

Japan, Korea and China make the top trio after Round 2 of the French Open. Polii/Rahayu used to perform in Paris, forced to stop. On the opposite Bulgaria’s Stoeva sisters confirmed they can make Asian pairs teeter.

Troubled and untroubled Japanese pairs...

The World Champions Japan’s Fukushima/Hirota trashed the Chinese pair Dong/Feng, world ranked 22, in 2 straight games 21-12 21-14. With a solid defense and strong back court game, the Japanese were just impossible to overcome.

“Our opponents are on top level and higher level than us. There is a big gap between both of us. We tried our best to play a bit longer with them” - said Feng Xue Ying after the match.

As for the French Open 2018 Edition winners Matsumoto/Nagahara, world ranked number 1, they overcame the French pair Tran/Lefel in 2 straight games 21-17 21-9.

On the opposite, Matsumoto/Takahashi - third seeded pair here in Paris – unfortunately faced the solid Stoeva sisters. The battle lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes. Long and exhausting rallies wore out the Japanese’s energy and confidence. The Bulgarian managed the deciding game’s money time and joined the last 8 pairs.

Korean pairs...

Kim/Kong defeated Piek/Seinen from Nethelands 21-10 21-17 and get their ticket for the next round. They were joined by Lee/Shin who dominated Kititharakul/Prajongjai 21-7 21-14. They did not miss th opportunity to move to the last stages (runner-up in 2017 and semifinalist last year).

And Chinese pairs

China’s Liu/Xia thwarted previous French Open’s winners (2017) and semifinalists (2018) Polii/Rahayu of demonstrating their Parisian performance 21-19 21-12.

Their fellows Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan made light work of Malaysia’s Hoo/Yap 21-11 21-12

As for Hsu/Hu from Chinese Taipei, they disposed of the other Malaysian pair Chow/Lee 21-16 21-23 23-21. See all the results of the women’s doubles draw here. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
