Quarter finals - MD : Let’s go Asia, let's go !

Today was not a good day for European men’s doubles. The last pair from Europe has been eliminated after fighting for an hour against the title holders Lee/Lee. It simply means that the last two days of competition will only be composed of Asian pairs.

Bye Bye Europe…

The day began with the defeat of Ivanov/Sozonov against LEE/LEE from Taipei. They lost the first game 19-21 but came back in the second to win 21-17. Unfortunately, their mental strength was missing and they lost the last set 20-22 after a notable fight. They still realised a good tournament here in Paris and showed that European pairs could face the biggest one in the world.

Welcome to Asia !

The favourites of the tournament Gideon/Sukamuljo from Indonesia qualified themselves for the semi-finals, and the French crowd seemed to be really happy about it. Facing Chen/Wang from Taipei (number 7 seed), they had some difficulties in the first tight game but found the solutions to get the victory in only two sets 21-17 21-11.

Indians are definitely a nice surprise here in Paris. The quarter-finals have seen two indian pairs competing against each other (Attri/Reddy against Rankireddy/Shetty). After a first set pretty tight won by Rankireddy/Shetty 21-17, they also easily got the second one 21-11.

The only Chinese pair to reach the semi-finals is Han/Zhou. They won 21-17 21-18 against Liao/Su from Taipei.
