Round 2 - Mixed doubles : 50 % of victory for the English pairs

The English mixed doubles showed some solid performances today. Even if the Adocks didn’t find a way to succeed today, fortunately, their peers Smith/Ellis made an amazing performance and earned their ticket for the quarter-finals.

The favourite couple Adcock, who won an amazing match yesterday, made its entrance this afternoon. Tough draw for the Adcocks as they had to face the world no 1 from China, Zheng and Huang. Indeed, their association began a year ago and since then, they had an incredible progression together.

Since the very beginning of the match, the Chinese raised their game at some high level which was hard to keep up for the Adcocks. They lost the first game 21-12 and couldn’t defend themselves as they wish ! Despite the amazing support from the crowd, the world no1 were too strong, even in the second game that the british pair lost 21-11.

The other English pair had more success today. In 3 sets Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith managed to win an important match. For their 3rd round, they had to fight against the world no 12 from Malaysia, GOH/LAI. The two pairs have almost the same ranking and the score was really close during the match. After loosing the 2nd game 24-22, the English had some difficulties to come back on track. From 11-3 down at the break, they made an unbelievable comeback on the match and managed to win 21-19 22-24 21-19.

Very close match for the german pair

The Germans Marvin Seidel and Linda Elfer faced two players from Japan in the 3rd round of the French open today. They took the first set pretty easily and prevailed over their opponents without letting them breathe. It took them less than 13min to win the 1st game.

Their opponents quickly reacted and won the 2nd game 22-20. For the ultimate game the match took a different turn. The whole stadium was watching the match and cheered them. The score was really close, up to 24-24. In the end, Takuro Hoki and Wakana Nagahara took the lead and achieve a great victory comparing to their ranking together (356th). Final score: 11-21 22-20 26-24.

Joachim Fisher and Alexandra Boje, last Danish pair in the mixed doubles draw, didn’t have the same success they had yesterday : they were defeated by a pair from Thailand, PUAVARANUKROH/ TAERATTANACHAI (21-10 21-15).
